Using the service

DarkenMyPDF is a free browser-based utility for improving the contrast and print quality of PDF documents. No account is required and no payment is taken.

You may use it for personal, educational, internal business and commercial purposes. There is no watermark on the output and no attribution requirement.

Your documents remain yours

You keep every right in the documents you process, and in the enhanced files the tool produces from them. No licence of any kind is granted to us, because your documents never reach us — the processing happens entirely on your own device.

Your responsibilities

• You must have the right to process the documents you put through the tool.
• You must not use it to alter documents in order to deceive — for example to remove markings, watermarks or notices from a document you do not own, or to misrepresent a record.
• You must not attempt to disrupt the service or the systems that host it.
• You are responsible for keeping your own backups. Always keep the original file.

Enhancement is lossy by nature

Improving contrast means discarding tonal information. That is the point of the exercise, but it means the enhanced file is a processed derivative rather than a replacement for the original.

For legal, financial, medical or archival records, keep the untouched original as the record of truth. Whether a processed copy is acceptable for any particular purpose is a decision for whoever receives it, not for this tool.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that every PDF will be processed successfully, that the result will suit your purpose, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Browsers, devices and PDF files vary enormously, and some documents will not process.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or business, arising from your use of or inability to use the service.

Since the tool never modifies your original file, the practical remedy for an unsatisfactory result is to keep the original and try different settings.

Availability and changes

The service may be modified, limited or discontinued at any time without notice. Processing limits — file size, page count, timeout — may change as the tool evolves; the current values are always shown on the page.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision, and continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
